Every mom I know either has or wants a digital SLR camera. I got one last year at Christmas.
I had been wanting one for a long time, and my husband bought it for me when he saw it for a crazy price online.
Deal on Canon Digital SLR Lens
Today I found a good deal at Target – it’s $150 off a Canon lens when you purchase a Canon EOS Rebel T3 or T3i DSLR. Looks like you can choose between a 55-250mm lens or a 75-300mm lens. It’s not a discount on the camera, itself, but that’s a pretty decent chunk from the cost of a lens!
Knowing how much these cost (you’re looking at spending at least $500-700 for the camera and lens), I always notice when there’s a good deal advertised.
I like to tell others about deals like this, especially when I know they already have the item on their radar.
The Ultimate Deal – Combine the Coupon with a Sale on Digital SLR Cameras
The offer is good through December 29th, so I would recommend waiting until you see a sale on Canon EOS Rebel DSLRs at Target.com (they’re bound to run a special between now and then), then jump on this offer to maximize your savings.
There’s no guarantee this will happen, but seeing how popular digital SLRs are these days, I’d say there’s a pretty good chance.
I’ll make sure to post here if and when I see this occur. Please feel free to post below if you notice a sale on Canon DSLRs at Target, and I’ll update this post. Let’s help as many moms as possible get a good deal on the camera and lens of their dreams this Christmas!

Nice deal, but it is pretty expensive and the point and shoot (digital) cameras are pretty good. More people are just using their phones for the memory shots too.

Yes, I agree. A digital SLR is a pure luxury. My iPhone is so good at taking pictures, and I love Instagram, so I’m often tempted to just use my phone.
This is a good deal. We just bought an actual camera a few weeks ago. I would rather take important photos with a nice camera rather than our phones:)

I can’t believe this deal. And when you follow the link, notice that the camera, itself, is on sale as well!
I’m not the best about remembering to take my real camera anywhere, but I always have my iPhone on me.
My wife asked for one of these for Christmas, but the price is so expensive that it would have to double as her birthday gift, as well as likely Valentines and Mothers Day. I’ve found deals like this where you get extra lenses, and while it’s a good percentage saving, it’s still a lot of money, so if she gets it, she’s probably going to have to add the lenses later. I would hope that at some point you’d be able to find deals on just the extra lenses, not only in bundles.

I’m sure you could find a deal on lenses down the road. That’s what I usually do when I want something expensive – give up other gifts to free up the $$ to buy it.
I feel like SLRs are the kind of thing one buys very rarely, so I would suggest the newest one, since you’re going to have it for a long, long time. That, and I have the T4i, and I love it. But I had to take a class in order to figure out how to use it!

I’m gonna take a class, too! I need some instruction on shooting techniques, exposure, photo editing, etc. I figure I already spent this much on a camera, why scoff at another $150 for a class?! LOL
My girlfriend has been asking for a DSLR for about a year, but I’ve never seen her take a photo in her life before! She says she would take it up as a hobby if she had the right equipment…
I’m not sure if I can justify the cost – or should I bite the bullet for her?

Seeing as she’s your girlfriend…I say go for it! Now, if you were talking about your wife, that’s different. hahaha
If she’s been asking for one for that long, then I bet she’s serious about it.
Thanks for the tip Lena!
Thinking it might be cheaper just to make her my wife then…. haha

We bought the Fuji refurb version of the Cannon EOS a couple of years ago and it has been a great camera. I don’t have a smart phone, so this camera has been super for vacation and kid pictures.

I can see how the justification for a digital SLR would be easy if you don’t have a smartphone.
