Meal Trains are such a wonderful way to lend a helping hand to friends or family members having a difficult time.
But what do you do when you want to help but feel limited by budget restraints?
I reached out to some of my blogging friends and gathered 27 budget-friendly meal train ideas.
Whether you are dropping off a home-cooked meal for a sick person, new parents, or a friend or family member having a tough time, these meal train recipes are a great way to say, “I’m thinking about you.”
These ideas caught my attention as the best meals for a meal train featuring some of my favorite recipes.
What Is A Meal Train?
A meal train is an organized plan to provide meals for a specified period for an individual or family in need of extra support.
Meal trains can include breakfast, lunch, and dinner OR just one meal per day.
Recipients might be new moms, a family with a new baby, a family going through tough times because of a major life event, an individual or family battling a chronic or terminal illness, or people just having a hard time.
Meal trains don’t have to be homemade meals, they can involve a gift card to a local restaurant, or even take-out or Grub Hub deliveries.
They can be adapted in many ways to provide nutritious meals for people in need.
How Long Is A Typical Meal Train?
There is no right or wrong answer for the length of a meal train.
Depending on the circumstances, meal trains can be as short as a few days and as long as a few months. A typical (generous) meal train lasts from 4-6 weeks.
I have participated in meal trains for families going through child birth, cancer, surgeries, death, car accidents and even depression.
A good rule of thumb is to provide 3 or 4 meals each week, which allows for leftovers to be eaten on extra days.
