Santa Claus, dressed in his traditional red suit with white fur trim and a red sack on his back, is humorously riding a small, worn-out green bike. The background features a plain gray wall and a textured floor. Kids watching this scene can't help but believe in Santa's playful spirit.

When I first became a mom, I wasn't prepared for a lot of things. I was probably MOST unprepared for the fact that my children would start asking me hard questions. As a mom, you know that when your kids ask you a question you BETTER have the answer! If you don't have it, who possibly could? You are everything to them and they look to you for advice.  I didn't realize I would have to take a hard stance on so many issues I didn't even realize were issues before! Oh the questions I was unprepared for! Does the Easter Bunny come to our house? What happens when you Keep Reading

This rendition of How Great Thou Art by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill is just about the most perfect song you'll ever hear. I listen to it often, and it makes me cry every. single. time. Around the 4:15 mark, even Martina McBride is like, "Whoa, you're killin' it!" I hope you are as blessed by it as I have been. :) More from WhatMommyDoes Here's my latest free printable adult coloring page with a Bible verse this time! It's a pretty floral pattern whether or not you color it, but even my kids like to color it. It's their favorite flower coloring sheet, and it never gets old! Keep Reading

A book cover with a young child raising their hands and yelling. The cover reads, "The Best Parenting & Discipline Book Ever: The One You Need to Read Now Before It's Too Late," highlighting it as the best parenting book. The blog name "What Mommy Does" appears in a pink circle in the bottom left corner.

I was just on a much-needed vacation this weekend with some old friends who are running into discipline problems with their two year olds. They asked me what they should do - as a mom of three, they figured I had a few tricks up my sleeve. As it turns out, I have a simple solution for every single parent who faces a defiant child (so basically anyone who has a 2-year-old!) It's a parenting book about discipline written by Dr. James Dobson. Why This is the Best Parenting Book About Discipline Ever Written This book was recommended to me about 4 years ago by a dear church friend who saw Keep Reading

The Christmas Tradition I Can’t Live Without

When I think of fun, old fashioned Christmas traditions, this family activitty comes to mind. I take my kids to do this every single year & I did it with my family as a child. I also going use a new idea to keep Christmas Christ centered this year. Here's an example any Christian family could do regardless of your children's ages.

Recently, I attended a workshop at church about how parents can keep Christ at the center if Christmas. A few days prior to that, I had just posted about how the approach of Thanksgiving always makes me start stressing about my Christmas to-do list. What this workshop helped me realize us that we're losing sight of the true meaning of Christmas by making it more about cookie exchanges, Christmas cards, and presents than about Jesus. I saw myself in every example the speaker gave. I'm the person who cringes at the thought of spending $150+ on Christmas photos and cards yet does it Keep Reading

Close-up image of a red Bible with the title "HOLY BIBLE" in gold lettering on the cover. A detailed silver cross necklace rests on top of the Bible.

One of the things I love most about being a mom is how it's opened up my heart to caring for others in ways I hadn't thought of before. Before I had children, I was sort of stuck in my own little self-obsessed world because I only had myself to worry about (and my husband, of course, but we both worked a lot and didn't really see each other all that much back then). Sad, I know.     Selfless Caring As a mom, I had to learn to selflessly care for another person. The kind of love that kids require. I'm glad I am called to do this, and I've found my children's Keep Reading
