I know you’ve seen it all over Pinterest – I have – those lovely red, white, and blue patriotic cupcakes. They look really cool.
I’ve been wanting to make them forever, and I figured Memorial Day would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Patriotic Cupcakes for Memorial Day or 4th of July
Here are the instructions in case you want to make them for yourself! Turns out it’s even easier than I originally thought.
1. Make a batch of cupcake batter and split it into thirds
2. Color 1/3 red with red food coloring
3. Color 1/3 blue with blue food coloring
4. Fill your cupcake tins 1/3 each with red, white (plain), and blue batter, layering one color on top of another.
If you would like a pictorial as an example, here’s a great one from Savoring the Thyme: How to Make Firecracker Cupcakes
I think plain white frosting with sprinkles is the way to go, but you could also swirl on red, white, and blue icing like Savoring the Thyme did.
