I have something that I want to tell every single person in the world.
I got positive Covid test right after Christmas 2021, and it is now January 13th, and I am finally returning back to the world after many days in the hospital and now on oxygen to help me breathe.
I went to the brink and back and truly thought I would not make it for a little while there. I’ve never been so scared!
What I Want Everyone to Know to Have on Hand at Home
I must have gotten the worst strain available because I cannot begin to describe the pain in my joints.
I will spare you all the long details of my first week of Covid because this story is about the SECOND WEEK.
And there is one thing I want to shout from the rooftops.
I haven’t been this passionate about sharing something in so long – take a few minutes to read this because I think it’s valuable information every family in the United States and around the world needs to know!
I didn’t learn this from the CDC guidelines or from my doctor, so I’m here to tell the story after the fact.
I had Covid for a full week before the real interesting part started to happen….
I Couldn’t Stay Awake for Very Long
As I thought I was getting over the disease, I started to feel really tired.
So tired I couldn’t keep my eyes open for longer than a few minutes. I would eat a bit, sit on the couch, then fall asleep. I thought I was just recuperating and that everything would be going uphill from there.
But I slowly realized I could no longer walk around very well without feeling dizzy and I started to have the slightest cough, but not really much at all.
My husband thought to bring out this little pulse oximeter that I had purchased on a whim earlier in the year “just in case we needed it.”
I actually bought it at the urging of my chiropractor who said it would be good to have.
Okayyyyy, whatever, I got one and put it in my medicine cabinet.
Well, we didn’t realize just how essential this would be to my recovery.
LET ME TELL YOU. THIS LITTLE DEVICE QUITE LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE!!
In my 2nd week of Covid, we monitored my blood oxygen content using the pulse oximeter and quickly realized I was dropping below 88 at all times, sometimes lower just when I walked across the room.
We looked up the guidelines and realized that anything consistently below 88 requires medical intervention.
So we went to the urgent care in the morning to where they immediately hooked me up to oxygen and sent me by ambulance to the hospital!
I am so fortunate I went then, because I couldn’t stay awake at urgent care and feel like I was about 1 day away from not being able to be awake at all!
I’m sure my husband would have called 911 at that point, but luckily this little device gave us enough warning to get serious help before I got to that point.
I don’t know what would have happened if we had waited any longer or didn’t have a way to know that my oxygen was the reason I had shortness of breath.
I had Covid Pneumonia and didn’t know it
After all, at that point I didn’t look or feel half as sick as I had the week before.
It was the oddest thing that I couldn’t pinpoint that my issue was trouble breathing. Something about Covid….it acts differently than any other sickness I’ve ever had before.
I am here today to tell you if you get ONE ITEM for your medicine cabinet JUST IN CASE you get a serious case of Covid Pneumonia like I did, it MUST BE A PULSE OXIMETER.
They are not expensive and it could save your life. If this helps ONE person get medical attention in time, then my journey will have been worth it.
If you are not sure what items to have on hand in case you get Covid, make sure this is one of them! It’s an easy way to be better prepared. Even if you feel like you are a healthy person (after all, I am 41 and in play tennis regularly), you never know when serious illness can strike.
Love you all ~
~ Lena

You don’t know if you will ever need it, but if you find yourself in a situation like me, you will WISH you had this small device in your home!
I am going to tell every single person I ever meet until the end of time about this little device that saved my life and told us to get urgent medical care.
This one is very similar to the one I have and it works great >>
Zacurate 500BL Fingertip Pu...Shop on Amazon
Here’s another pulse oximeter that looks like a good option – some of them are rather narrow, so if you have wide fingers like me this looks like a great option. It would have a good fit for any finger and is still reasonably priced.
AccuMed CMS-50D1 Fingertip ...Shop on Amazon
I would look in the $20-$35 range for this device. Here are even more options on Amazon >>
Don’t agonize over which one to get – having one at all is a good idea vs procrastinating and not having one when you need it for you or a family member.
I will forevermore consider this one of my household’s essential supplies.
I believe you can also find a pulse oximeter at the drug store near the medical supplies.

Glad you are on the mend! Hope you have a full recovery.
I had a similar experience except I am 67. My husband and I both got sick the day after Thanksgiving and thought we were on the mend after the first week. None of the family or friends that were helping us with food realized my oxygen was low even though it took everything I had to eat, walk to the bathroom or do anything at all.
My daughter came over on December 10 and brought an oximeter. My reading was so low she called 911 and I spent a week in the hospital. My husband spent several days but he was not as sick. We both came home weak and with supplemental oxygen. Another day might have been too late!
Age is not always a factor as low oxygen can sneak up on you and it Will impair your judgement.
Please get one of these as it can make a major difference in the outcome of an illness, especially Covid.

Wow, Carol, I am so thankful your daughter thought to come over and check your oxygen! It was so weird thinking I was getting better but I really wasn’t. I’ve never had a sickness like this before and hope I never do again! The best to you and your family!
