The other week I wrote about how I’m trying my best to figure out better laundry systems around this place. I finally figured out a way to consolidate some of my laundry tasks, and I wrote about that here:
The 3 Basket Laundry System That Saved My Sanity
Now that I have that process under control, I feel like I could make even more improvements. You see, I HATE DOING LAUNDRY. It’s second only to unloading the dishwasher. I really don’t like doing that. 🙂
So for the past two weeks I’ve been trying to figure out how I can basically have a better attitude about doing laundry, so I thought maybe there’s something I can do to actually make it fun so I don’t dread doing it so much.
I think I finally figured it out!
What is My Laundry Rule?
It’s really simple actually. I made a rule that says I cannot watch my favorite shows unless I’m doing laundry at the same time. There are all sorts of TV shows that I dropped watching regularly when I started blogging seriously, and I wish I had time to fit them in.
So what I’ve started doing is taking my laptop upstairs with me when the laundry is ready to be folded in our room, and hitting play on a show I really want to watch. It’s made me actually look forward to doing the laundry – not because I love laundry – but because I love catching up on my favorite shows!
Lately, I’ve been watching Criminal Minds. I am about two seasons behind on it, so I have plenty of laundry-watching time ahead of me with that one show alone. Not sure what show I’ll do next, but I have a few in mind!
I have found that later afternoon, after carpool, but before I start dinner, is a perfect time to do this. The key is to get the kids involved in something somewhere else (because they’re not old enough to watch my favorite shows!). Sometimes I have them work on their own laundry or other chores, but sometimes I just wait until the neighbor kid is over here playing with them and they are totally distracted. Then I can sneak away for 30-45 minutes and get some quality tv time (a.k.a. laundry) done!
What do you think? Could this make you love doing laundry, too?!

I love folding laundry while watching shows. I find it takes a bit longer to do the laundry since I’m paying attention to the TV, but it at least doesn’t feel like such a chore!

I feel the same way! The time seems to pass by more quickly!
