You may not know this about me, but 3 years ago, I embarked on a fitness journey that led me to lose 50 lbs after having my third baby.
Since I lost that weight, I have been on an unending journey to keep the weight off. Honestly, I thought it was a bit easier to lose it initially than keep it off. Once you give yourself permission to eat like a normal person again, it’s easy to go a little too far. I’ve slipped here and there, ending overall about 15 lbs above my lowest weight. So I guess you could say I lost 35 net pounds after having my third baby.
Thirty-five pounds is still impressive number, so I’ll take it!
My weight has leveled off in the past year. I’m not gaining, and I’m not losing. I’m maintaining my weight at a size 8/10 which I am very happy about!
In addition to continuing to exercise several days a week (mostly lifting weights and doing some cardio), there is ONE thing that I do every day without fail that I’m positive helps me with my weight maintenance efforts.
I DRINK 2-3 CUPS OF TEA EVERY DAY
Seriously, that’s my big secret. When I do this consistently, I am able to maintain my weight easily.
I have quite a tea collection right now. In fact, soon I am planning on creating a special section in my pantry because right now I have boxes of tea crowding out the dishes in my cabinets!
Hands down my favorite type of tea to drink for weight maintenance is green tea. My current obsession is flavored green tea. I like mixing it up every day, so I don’t get bored with my routine.
This is my absolute favorite right now: White Mangosteen Peach from Lipton
Lipton has always been my go-to brand of tea, so I am pretty excited that they’re branching out and offering different varieties.
Drinking Tea to Curb Cravings
The main reason I drink tea is because it curves my cravings when I really shouldn’t be eating those extra calories.
The first time I like to drink a cup of green tea in the middle of the afternoon. Most days, I just make a cup to take with me to carpool. It serves as an appetite suppressor at a time of day I’m usually craving a snack.
Then in the late afternoon / early evening, I will sometimes drink a cup of black tea as a pick-me-up before dinnertime. My favorites are Enticing Chai and Stirring Ceylon by Lipton.
Finally, in the evening, I almost always find myself craving something to eat around 10 p.m…..that’s when I’ll drink a cup of herbal tea to keep myself occupied and away from food I don’t need that late at night! My go-to herbal Lipton tea is Berry Hibiscus, although I think Peach Mango is delicious as well. Because they’re herbal and don’t contain caffeine, I’m not at risk of messing up my bedtime.
So there you have it – my master tea plan! I find that this plan keeps me from eating 300 extra calories per day, easily. That many calories adds up to many pounds prevented from creeping back on over time! You can check out the full line-up of Lipton Green, Black and Herbal teas here.
