As I write this post, I’m in the passenger seat of our van right on the way to the beach for a long weekend! yah!! I love the fact that I can take my work with me wherever I go….even if the hot spot connection is weak and I keep having to re-connect every few sentences. LOL

If you have any suggestions for a better “on the road” internet alternative than my Verizon Wireless hotspot, I’m all ears! 🙂

I was scared OUT OF MY MIND to speak

I haven’t spoken in front of a large group of people for 15 years, much less for the first time in front of a room of 350+, but I felt strongly about the topic so I am glad I did.

In my speech, I talked about what TRULY MATTERS when it comes to getting traffic to your blog….how I once was earning almost a full time income when it all disappeared overnight and how I came back!

Let me tell you – I wish I knew then what I know now!

This 45-minute presentation dives into what I know now about traffic generation looking back over my 10 years as a blogger. So many people thanked me afterwards for sharing my journey and helping them feel relieved to know there is life beyond the current platform of the moment, whether it’s Facebook, Pinterest, Google, or Instagram for them.

More specifically, my presentation covered:

  • the two things you need to worry about in order to get traffic from ANY platform 
  • why it doesn’t matter if Pinterest or Facebook or Google for that matter disappears tomorrow because you CAN make a comeback (and the concepts you must understand in order to do so)
  • how to encourage people to click over to your blog (with examples!)
  • what happens when you intentionally focus your efforts
  • the #1 thing to avoid if you want people to visit your blog and not just save your content for later 

Overwhelmingly, I can summarize the feedback I received from many people as:

I didn’t know I was sabotaging myself in those ways and I now know I can SLOW DOWN and focus on what works instead of jumping from tactic to tactic.
