Creative “Playdough” Money Gift

I love it when someone shows me creative ways to give money as a present. 

Maybe it’s because I used to love getting money at Christmas or my birthday?

Or maybe it’s because I love seeing the look on someone’s face when they open up their present and find another gift inside? 

Whatever the reason, it’s so nice to make someone happy with a simple cash gift. Giving money is great because everyone loves to receive it AND it couldn’t be easier to put this type of gift together. 

That leads to dilemma —–> How to make a money-filled present that is cute and fun, but also easy to pull off. 

The Most Amazing Gag Gift – Cash Hidden Inside Playdoh Containers!

Off to Pinterest I went to find all the money gift holder ideas I could!! LOL (And I sure found a bunch of hilarious gag gifts that I plan on making in the future) 

I was looking for one that would be best for a child between the ages of 8 and 13.

Fall is a big birthday season in my family, and with the ways things are right now, it can be a little hard to get out and buy a gift for each person. 

My nephew just turned 8 and he loves Play-Doh so much.

But, he also loves getting money so he can go to the store and choose his own toys.

Hiding some cash inside of a Play-Doh container seemed like the perfect way to surprise him this year!

This gift was definitely a winner. 

Easy DIY Money Gift Made Out of Dollar Bills 

My kids are DIY nuts! For real though, they really get into crafting and making things with their hands and I like to encourage that as much as possible. 

These Play-Doh money holders were creative DIY gifts that they could make easily. (And they loved that they could play with the Play-Doh themselves- we just put them into storage baggies since the containers were used) 

The kids got involved by helping me make this present. Who knew that rolling money is actually quite a nice family activity?! HA

In case you’re wondering, we put $10 worth of one dollar bills in our container.

We used ones because it was for a young child, but if you are giving to an older child or adult, of course you can use whatever bills you want. 

Did you know you can still get $2 bills from banks? How special and unique would that be to get!  

This could easily be a $5 gift, a $10 gift, a $15 gift, or a $20 gift. I think it would be hilarious to put $50 or $100 in one of these containers if you’re planning on giving that much to a kid.

The bigger the amount, the bigger the surprise at what seems like a ridiculously inappropriate gift at first glance! LOL

Graduation or Christmas Money Gift Ideas

High school and college graduations are the perfect time to gift money.

I like to make a big deal out of these accomplishments.

Using this Play-Doh idea for one of these occasions would be a super adorable way to make it extra special.

Getting yet another card probably wouldn’t make much of an impression, but getting the money from a cute container would.

Plus, it’s a fun way of sending them off from childhood into the adult world.

A graduation would be the perfect excuse to bring out the $10, $20 or even $100 bills! Talk about a surprise.

Just print them out, cut them out, and tape them using double sided tape to the Playdoh container lid! 

I made the tags small enough so they can fit onto the small size Playdoh containers like these because those are easier to find at the store than the large ones. But you can always get the large Playdoh containers on Amazon. 

How Can I Give Money as a Gift? 

You can give money as a gift many different ways.

A super cute way to gift cash is to hide it inside of an unusual money holder. In addition to regular size Playdoh containers, you could also use:

• the jumbo size Playdoh container like this one
• clear plastic bulb ornaments
• inside old cereal boxes
• inside a pizza box
• or even hidden in a box of tissues!
