The search for foods that kids will be happy to eat is never ending!! One child likes cheese, another wants carrots, the third is in a classroom with allergy problems… If only there was a healthy vending machine in each class to help me out.
Well I have finally done it. I have seen the light!! I have found the snack above other snacks.
Recent Diagnoses: Dairy Sensitivity
My youngest daughter was recently diagnosed with a dairy sensitivity / mild allergy. It was recommended to cut out all dairy items from her diet. At first I was dumbfounded. How could I tell the girl that ate the same yogurt every-single-day, that she couldn’t have her favorite snack anymore?
I went on a fact finding mission to get as much info on a dairy free diet as possible. I found websites and recipes. I bought lactose free milk, soy, almond, cashew and coconut milks. I made her favorite dishes with them and tried my best to make her happy while keeping her healthy.
That worked for feeding her at home, but the question of how to feed her at school still remained. Specifically at snack time in the classroom.
How I Hit an Accidental Home Run
I found the Homefree double chocolate chip cookies through my sister. We were discussing my daughter’s recent food woes before she left for the grocery store.
In the gluten free aisle, there was a clearance event happening and there was ONE bag of cookies left! She snatched it up and brought it over for her to try.
My daughter loved them!! That day they were the perfect snack in between school and sports practice.
I am truly impressed by how good these cookies taste. And egg free, dairy free, gluten free, nut free, soy free?!! Come on!
If you’re wondering what they taste like – they’re kinda crunchy like homemade chocolate chip cookies that you browned a bit much when you left them in the oven for too long directly on the cookie sheet…that’s a pretty good way to describe them. I’m one of those people who burns cookies on purpose just so they’ll be crunchy on the bottom. 😀 That’s why I love these cookies so much! They’re so delicious.
They’re free of the major allergens but not free of flavor. They are delicious and conveniently packaged for traveling, which makes it easy snacking on the go.
Where to Buy These Dairy Free Cookies
I went back to that store to buy more, but they were completely out!! None of the other local grocery stores carried them either.
I turned to my trusty friend, Amazon.com. I was happy to find that they are available on Amazon. We ordered them with our handy Amazon Prime subscription and got a box of them in 2 days’ time. Amazon actually has a really good selection of dairy free cookies to choose from. I think we will try this kind when we run out of these (and I won’t tell my kids they’re actually for moms). lol
Check out the other flavors they have as well. Vanilla and Lemon Burst sound delicious.
