When I was pregnant with each of my babies and we were scrimping and saving as much money as we could so I could be a stay-at-home-mom.
I remember looking at the looooonnnnnggg list of necessary baby items and wondering how people ever afforded children!
Money was especially tight when we were preparing for our first.
I remember looking at the list of expensive items like the stroller, crib, jumper, car seat, etc and hoping that I would receive them as shower gifts because I knew there was no way we could afford all of those items.
I went to Target and Babies R Us and put all of those items on my registry.
None of my friends and family are rich, and I knew the items I chose had to be affordable or there was no way I would receive any of the larger ticket items.
So I went for highly rated yet affordable items. Definitely nowhere near the top of the line.
The difference between mid-range and luxury prices on strollers, for instance, was $600 at the time!
I think I put a very reasonable universal Chicco stroller on my registry, all the while wishing someone would magically buy me a luxurious Bugaboo stroller that I’d seen in a boutique baby store.
I don’t know that I would have bought the more expensive items on my wishlist even if I had the money….
Who am I kidding? I totally would have! 🙂
To this day, I am a little envious when I see a new mom strolling her little one around in a stroller than looks like a bassinet floating on clouds with her designer purse neatly tucked underneath.
She has it made, I just know it. 🙂 Ok ya’ll know I know that’s not true, but it’s always nice to dream, right?!
So this here post is dedicated to all the expensive baby gear I never had that a little part of me wished I could have afforded.
10 Baby Items I Would Have Totally Bought If Money Were No Object
Do you see any of your wishes on this list?
1) Bugaboo Stroller
I saw so many moms at the mall with this stroller combo. Not only did it look super cute but it also moved around well.
If you’ve ever tried to push a stroller with a wonky wheel you know exactly what I mean. They are a hassle to manage!
This stroller turns corners and handles tight spaces with no problem. It’s also very easy to break down as it folds to fit in the trunk or backseat of a car and it’s lightweight.
The Lynx stroller has been a dream wish list item for me for years.
2) Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag
This bag is so stylish. I still want one even though my kids aren’t babies anymore.
It has insulated pockets for snacks, can be carried as a tote or a backpack and it has SO MANY POCKETS!!
It can hold my whole mom life in it.
3) Oval Shaped Crib
I just love the aesthetic of an oval crib.
In my mind, my ultimate nursery would have those beautiful large drapes surrounding an oval crib with sunlight filtering in through the windows and soft music playing in the background.
4) Motorola Wireless Video Monitor
Just like with my ring doorbell, I love the idea that I can see what is happening in my home.
This Motorola video monitor lets me check in on my kids while they play and talk to them even. It’s like having an intercom system in your home.
If I had one of these when the babies were younger I could have kept myself from waking them up in the middle of the night by checking in on them without having to open doors or turn on lights.
It could have saved me from many nights of frustration.
5) Plush White Fur Carpet
Kids love to play on thick carpets. Something about the thought of a luscious white carpet for a baby’s room makes me happy inside.
Who knows though, I may end up getting one for myself in my office one day.
Imagine walking on this and feeling it soft and warm under your toes…
6) Upholstered Swivel Glider with Ottoman
I had a huge old hand me down recliner that was passed around my family when my babies were little.
It was massive!! But it got the job done.
This adorable, space saving yet fully comfortable swivel glider would be so so easy to clean and wouldn’t take up half a room like the monstrosity I had did.
7) MamaRoo 4 Baby Swing/ Bluetooth Baby Rocker
I wish I could explain properly how amazing this baby swing is.
Who ever created it is a genius and I love them.
The way this swing moves is perfect for calming even the most colicky baby and allows you to get enough of a break to take your own nap!
8) BabyBjörn New Baby Carrier
When you’re trying to get cleaning done around the house or walking around at an amusement park or zoo, there is nothing better than a baby carrier.
This BabyBjorn brand one is so incredibly comfortable and easy to use.
My back was never happier than when I used a carrier and it feels so special and amazing to have your baby up against you.
It’s like having a non-stop hug.
9) Abiie Beyond Wooden High Chair with Tray
This wooden high chair is convertible, it goes from a high chair for a 6 month old and transitions it way up until it’s a regular chair.
Not only is it fancy but it’s also well made so it can withstand the test of time.
10) Duo Meal Station Food Maker / 6 in 1 Food Processor with Steam Cooker, Multi-Speed Blender
It’s so hard to tell exactly what is in food products these days.
And there are so many food allergies that sometimes you need to be safe and do the job yourself.
I love the fact that this food station has everything in it that you will need to make your own baby food.
I’m still considering getting one even though my kids are older, simply to use it to make purees for my own purposes.
There you have it.
I personally have a much larger list than just 10 things I wish I could have afforded, but this is a good place to start.
What would you buy if you had unlimited amounts of cash to spend on your new baby?
