Today I stumbled across something I couldn’t wait to share. It’s something every mom I know will be super excited about.
Free Online Photography Class
It’s a free course on taking professional quality photographs! It’s through a website called Craftsy. Apparently, I’ve been living under a rock for years and didn’t realize Craftsy was a thing.
Now I’m ALL ABOUT IT. I just signed up and I’m planning on taking the free photography course either over Thanksgiving break or Christmas when my husband is off work and I have a few free consecutive hours on my hands.
I seriously was just about to pay $48 to take a photography class through my local parks and recreation department. And that was a deal. Other classes I considered were as much as $125 for one morning of instruction! Now I don’t have to pay that fee AND I can do the learning on my own in my spare time!
I’m hoping that this course can save me from my horrible photography skills. Until just a few months ago, I was taking all of our family photos with my iPhone 4s. Not the best quality pictures for sure.
Now I have a Canon Rebel, but I have no idea how to use it. With such a nice camera in hand, I feel like I need a little help with lighting and flash options. I admit I have no clue when it comes to that sort of thing!
Course on Taking Photos – Recommended Items
For this course, the instructor recommends you have the following:
- Any camera that gives you some control over exposure. A DSLR is good, but you can also use a point-and-shoot (my Rebel…check!)
- Tripod (I need to get this)
- On- and/or off-camera flash (check!)
- White foam core (? guess they’ll explain this…I think it has to do with flash)
- White umbrella (check!)
- Seamless background paper and stands (miscellaneous stools…check!)
One big perk of this class (in addition to it being free) is that it’s available on demand, which means you can take it whenever best suits your schedule. Another perk is that access to the course NEVER EXPIRES so you can sign up at any time (so you don’t forget to do so, like me! LOL) and take the course some time in the future.
