I don’t know about you, but I don’t always love to exercise at home. Especially when I’m caught up in something I love (like blogging) or perhaps it’s just a dreary day and I can’t find my motivation.
So I came up with a fun trick to get myself up and moving.
I call it the “Surprise Exercise Bucket.”
All I did was grab a handful of plastic spoons, and on each one I wrote down an exercise. Something tough, but doable. Something that I could see myself doing two sets of.
I tried to think of exercises that we could all do together (me and my two girls – ages 7 and 4 – with my 2-year-old likely not participating). I did a variety of fast-paced exercises to get our heart rates up, mixed with upper body moves and abdominal work.
I placed all the spoons in a green bucket we had leftover from Easter. And we set it out in plain sight in the dining room.
Twice a day (usually in the mid-morning and evening), my kids and I pick out three spoons and do the specified exercises. We aim for two sets of each one, just to get a good burn (for my benefit…it’s ALL easy to them! LOL).
If we’re feeling especially good after the first few rounds, we’ll do a couple more. But the goal is to keep it fun and not try too much all at once. That way we all look forward to the next round and by the end of a few days, I’ve fit in an extra workout that I otherwise would not have gotten! Exercise win!
