One of the reasons I started this blog was to be a blessing to others in starting their own home businesses. Like Phil Dunfee in Modern Family when he said he couldn’t NOT think of things he wants for Christmas….I can’t NOT think of tons of different ways to make money!

In fact, I have a notebook full of ideas that I hope to eventually share on this blog one day.

But for today I felt compelled to write about some Etsy product ideas that I think would be really great. I sometimes have a hard time finding what I want to buy online – my husband says it’s because I go in with a mental picture of precisely what I want instead of first seeing what’s available and choosing from that selection. But I like to think it’s because I have awesome ideas that don’t exist yet. 😀

So here are three things that I would totally make and sell on Etsy if I had the talent. Sadly, I do not, so these Etsy shop ideas are free for the taking! Please someone use them! 🙂

Things to Sell on Etsy – 3 Etsy Product Ideas That Would Really Work

If you are wondering what to sell on Etsy, here are 3 things I would absolutely buy from you if you made them.

CUSTOM BIG BROTHER / BIG SISTER T-SHIRTS

When my oldest was 3, my youngest was 1, and I was pregnant with my third child, I had this great idea. I wanted to reveal our pregnancy by making our two girls both wear big sister shirts. I wanted them to match. Cute idea, right?…. WRONG! Do you know how hard it is to find MATCHING BIG SISTER SHIRTS in two different sizes? Crazy hard! Throw in the fact that I am fairly particular about things like this (I imagined they would be purple with rhinestones on them LOL), and it was basically impossible.

I probably looked for 3 weeks before finally finding someone on Etsy who offered a shirt like I envisioned in the two sizes I needed.

I bet there are hundreds, possibly thousands of people just like me who want cute, matching big sister t-shirts and just can’t find them.

DISNEY SCRAPBOOK ALBUMS

We went to Disney World last year. Ever since then, the photos we had taken professionally in the parks have been sitting on a disc waiting to be developed / scrapbooked / made into a photo album. I am partial to actual scrapbook albums, but I’ll be darned if I don’t have any free time to work on one…there always seems to be something more pressing to do like laundry, or more fun, like writing this blog post. 🙂

I had actually planned on purchasing a pre-made Disney album at my local Archiver’s store after our trip. And wouldn’t you know Archivers went out of business (at least in brick and mortar form) right around the time we went on our trip? Now I have no idea where to get a pre-made album. I’ve seen individual pages, but not entire books. Hello perfect product idea! How many people go to Disney World each year and also have no time or patience to scrapbook? I’d say the market is very large. With a little marketing, it could be a nice little side income for someone.

DINOSAUR STUFF FOR GIRLS

Right before I had my first child, I decided I wanted to decorate her bedroom in a dinosaur theme. However, when I went to the store, all I could find was dinosaur stuff in BOY COLORS. I wasn’t looking for a neutral color scheme either. I wanted her room to be girly, but with dinosaurs.

The possibilities here are endless. Off the top of my head, here are some things I would have liked to find in girly colors:

• Dinosaur wall art – either printable to put in a picture frame or ready made canvases
• Dinosaur bedding in pink, green, or purple
• Girly dinosaur lamp shade
• Pink polka dotted dinosaur receiving blanket
• Purple dinosaur blanket
• Plush pillow with dinosaur applique

Will These Etsy Product Ideas Work?

You might be thinking, “Yeah, these ideas are cool, but I just saw Betty Jo Etsy shop owner list these exact products the other day.”

To that I say the world is a big place, and although you might know where to buy girly dinosaur blankets, premade Disney scrapbook albums, and matching big brother t-shirts, I don’t have a clue where to find them. Furthermore, Betty Jo might not have my same sense of style, but you do! I would bet there are lots of other people just like me out there waiting for your Etsy shop to open. Go for it!

If it turns out Etsy is tapped out for any one of these items, then the Amazon marketplace is a great place to start as well. Especially if you can tap into the Prime shipping by using Fulfillment by Amazon. I buy all sorts of things from Amazon, including gifts, just because I can get free shipping and not drag my kids to the stores. 🙂
