Even before the first day of winter, my thoughts turn to winter-themed craft projects.
We spend more time inside as a family when it’s cold, but my kids still want fun activities to do. I try to find seasonal coloring pages or crafts when we don’t have any other plans.
Last year, my kids begged for me to take them somewhere where they could see snow (we don’t get much in NC).
So I thought snowflake and snowman projects would be in order this year…if we don’t get to see the actual thing, at least we can use our imaginations!
Free Winter Stencils – Printable Templates for Kids Projects
When we need a quick winter-themed project, the first thing I do is scour the web for printable winter stencils. Why pay for sleigh, snowflake or snowman patterns when perfectly acceptable templates are available online?
Below are some of the best printable winter-themed patterns I’ve found to date.
Free Snowflake Stencils, Sleigh & Sled Templates, Snowman Cutouts
For projects with my girls, I found these cute templates:
SNOWFLAKES TO PRINT
- Free snowflake patterns – I really like these three snowflake patterns from First Palette. These are really meant to be used as guides for cutting out your own snowflakes, but I’ll likely use them for coloring pages or as large stencils on various projects.
- Large snowflake template – The Southern Living website offers a large snowflake stencil for download. It is meant as a stencil for cake decorating, but it could really be used for any craft project that calls for a beautiful snowflake template.
- Cute & unique snowflake stencils – Kinderart has several cute snowflake printables. I’m good at creating my own simple patterns by folding and cutting freehand, but these patterns will help me create special snowflakes with rounded tips or unique shapes.
SLEIGHS & SLEDS
- Sleigh stencil – I like this Santa/sleigh silhouette template from Activity Village. If you’d rather not have Santa in the picture, there’s also a sleigh-only version.
- Elegant sleigh – On this page, you’ll find a similar, more elegant version of a sleigh.
- Printable sled – Believe it or not, sled stencils are rather hard to find online! I found a workaround, though; SheKnows offers a printable sled that I will totally use as a sled stencil. I like it because of the wooden slat detail, just like the sleds I used to ride on as a kid!
PRINTABLE SNOWMEN PATTERNS
- Snowman template – First School offers a large blank snowman stencil perfect for the little ones to decorate using their imaginations.
- Snowman stencil – Although Birds on a Cake blog made a cute winter themed cake with this pattern, it could be used for a variety of winter projects.
I hope you can use some of these resources this winter for your craft projects!
