I haven’t written about blogging in a while, so I thought I’d come out of my blogging about blogging hibernation today and write something that’s been weighing on me for a while.
I think this is an important topic to talk about.
My CPA background affords me a unique perspective on blogging. Sometimes I don’t realize that what I do is different than the rest until someone points it out.
I realized last year than I apparently have a unique system of determining what things I should be doing to generate income on my blog vs things I shouldn’t be doing at all.
I am quick to throw things out the window that don’t work and tend to work ONLY on the things that matter income-wise. Sure, this might result in me leaving out some lesser things out that other people deem important, but usually they’re just cosmetic blogging things I’m fine with skipping. I simply like knowing that every single thing I do on a daily basis moves my income needle forward.
Are you ready for that kind of certainty?
Keep reading for 10 income generating tasks that ALWAYS make my short list.
10 Failproof Income Generating Blogging Tasks
I like to look at this as a “do this, not that” checklist. This is a mix of sales based tasks and content based tasks so some of these will work for you whether or not you have a product to promote.
-
Creating affiliate sales focused content….instead of blog content that doesn’t have a real purpose other than get traffic
- Improving landing page copy for an upcoming product launch….instead of using the same landing page that has the potential to convert more sales
-
Supporting your affiliates if you have them
-
Writing interesting emails to your mailing list + adding a “P.S I have a cool new product for you”….the alternative is simply to just chat with your readers (which is good), but why miss a chance at making a sale?
-
Negotiating pay raises on affiliate products….affiliate relationships are BUSINESS relationships. If you are already making sales, then odds are the company that makes the product would be interested in keeping you around, especially if you promise to promote them MORE for an increased percentage
-
Improve SEO on monetized posts.…this is the best way to improve income incrementally. You’ve got the sales concepts in place and now you just need more traffic. Do this instead of working on SEO for posts that have no earning potential other than ad revenue.
-
Driving more traffic to already high performing content….it’s easier to increase traffic on a post people already like rather than promote a bad post to death.
-
Talking to readers to get an idea of what they’re struggling with (so you can develop solutions or give advice)…the alternative is to create a product that you THINK they’ll like, which has a chance at flopping. If you work based on their actual stated desires, you’ll be working on something that will SELL!
-
Creating videos to feature on your FB page to feed your FB pixel for ad campaigns.…many of your ideal people are on Facebook, but they don’t often raise their hands to be marketed to. By creating content you know they’ll like, they will self-identify themselves. Do this instead of wasting time posting things on Facebook that are purely for marginal entertainment for your audience. Videos trump pics every time because they collect pixel information!
-
Improving metrics such as conversion rates using a heat map tool…don’t just throw up a sales-focused piece of content and hope it works! A heat map tool can give you SO MANY great insights into consumer behavior.
There’s a reason I have so many product-based action items above….that’s because hands down selling products (whether my own or affiliate products) is the easiest most predictable way to generate income online.
High traffic is hard to recreate on demand, but coming up with a product your audience needs is not so hard as long as you really understand their needs. (BTW if high traffic is something you want, then the easiest way to do that is recreate + improve upon your best post to date! This will be idea #11 🙂
I hope you like this list and give a few of these a try this week! They will undoubtedly help your bottom line.
