UPS #WishesDelivered – Make a Wish on Behalf of Someone Else

In the United States, alone, the Dept of Health and Human Services estimates that there are over 100,000 orphans.

These are not just children out of their home because their parents are not equipped to take care of them. These are children who do not have parents trying to get them back. They can’t.

Just thinking about this makes me want to cry. I look at my three little ones and can’t imagine them not having a parent to care for them. I feel like we put so much continuous work into molding our children for the future. It saddens me to know not every child has someone who will always be their advocate.

With this in mind, I am participating in the UPS #WishesDelivered program.

My wish is for all orphans to feel loved by someone this holiday season Day. #WishesDelivered

There is nothing worse than feeling all alone. Loneliness can put you into a debilitating state. I have several family members who grew up as orphans, and the stories they tell about the loneliness they experienced is heartbreaking. Some orphans spend their entire childhoods in group orphanages without the secure feeling of knowing a mom and/or dad is there for them. I cannot imagine feeling that way, and now that I’m a mom, I am even more aware of this.

Because orphanages are sometimes located in small towns or out of sight even in your city, it’s sometimes difficult to know how to get plugged into the needs of the children there. There are many organizations that wrap gifts with special messages for children in local orphanages and also do special events with the children throughout the year. If you’d like to help your local orphange, you can ask about this in a community Facebook group. Someone can probably direct you to an organization that helps orphans. You could also call the orphanage directly to see what you can do to show the children they are loved.

I am writing this post today on behalf of the #WishesDelivered program. For every wish submitted on their website or posted on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #WishesDelivered, UPS will donate $1 to one of their charity partners (Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, or Toys for Tots) up to $100K!

How easy is that? If you have a holiday wish or story to share, you can do good simply by telling others.

Wish Ideas – What Will You Wish For?

Your wish can be any sincere, heartfelt wish for someone else. In order to count, the wish must be meaningful (so no wishing for someone to get a new iPhone). 🙂 The more sharing a wishes the better, so tell all your friends about this program on Facebook! Here are some examples:

• Share your wish for a family member to make it through a difficult time of grieving
• Share your wish for a friend to have good results on a mammogram
• Share your wish for your son to not have to fear bullies ever again
• Share your wish for the family down the street to make it through financial difficulties

Wishes can be submitted through December 31, 2014, so there’s still plenty of time to participate!
