As a parent of three children, I have had the panic of counting Christmas presents days before the big day and realizing that the count is way off. Santa has brought child #1 three gifts and child #3 seven gifts.
The elves have failed spectacularly (not me of course) and that is when creative accounting and gift giving occurs so Christmas morning stays a joyful time instead of a time where one kid feels left out.
Sibling gifts start getting opened by child #1, Dollar Tree candy that was going into the stockings are now going to that child in bulk to share with siblings.
Outfits bought for one child start getting individually wrapped to count as more than one!
Strange things happen during the final Countdown to Christmas morning – gifts become group gifts, gifts from siblings, gifts from Santa!
Sibling Gift Ideas for This Holiday Season
Here are some ideas that could be ordered ahead or found quickly that day at nearby stores to create sibling gifts.
1) Kinetic Sand Construction Site Kit
This kit is a perfect and affordable gift for multiple children.
It is a sensory play that works for a wide range of ages between the siblings. The mess is easily contained and there are many ways to expand this kit if they love it.
This kinetic sand gift maintains high reviews and I have personally bought this as a birthday present before.
Its the perfect way for kids to spend some time playing with their hands and getting a break from electronics.
My daughter loves to pay with her little brother with kinetic sand.
If you have a pack of young children then I recommend a pop beads jewelry kit.
You can get these in all sorts of colors – bright, girly or gender neutral. You can buy pop bead jewelry kits from many stores that could work for you in a pinch.
These can be a choking hazard so watch your very littles if they like to put things in their mouths.
These are a fun gift that can be pulled apart with a satisfying pop sound and made into something new.
Pop beads are also considered sensory play.
Another great sibling Christmas gift is an art kit.
This particular kids art studio has multiple pre-printed canvases that the children can just add their paint colors to. Simple but cute in the end.
This works for a range of ages.
If you wanted to do this before Christmas you could have your littles paint for each other as sibling Christmas gifts or to make for a grandparent. This concept can be DIY’d if you go to one of the dollar stores or craft stores.
(Although when this set is on sale, I don’t think you could DIY for cheaper.)
4) Six Pack Velcro Paddle Catch Game
My cousins and I loved playing with this velcro catch mitts and velcro ball as children.
Hours of entertainment.
Not sure how you would keep the siblings from throwing the ball in the house if it is cold outside, but either way this is hours of fun!
This gift idea comes with six mitts, so if you all want to play together, you can make it happen easily.
Sometimes the best Christmas gifts are the ones you can all play with.
Trampolines are a classic sibling gift and create hours of fun. Some of them are quite small and can be indoors or outdoors.
This particular trampoline is 60” across.
Weather where I am can range on Christmas day from 20F to 72F! Small enough for indoor and outdoor play sounds great for the little ones.
Either way this great gift will be a huge hit!
Trampolines are so much fun to use as a group. Sibling relationships can grow as they have a blast jumping around!
6) Pop Up Play Tent With Tunnels
Another perfect gift for siblings is a pop up tent and tunnel set.
Older siblings can help you set up the play set and all the children can have hours of fun and quality time together in it.
These play sets come in a variety of sizes, tons of colors and many price ranges. Even little ones that do not walk can still play with this toy.
If your count is super messed up and you bought the above listed play tent with tunnels then buy a set of ball pit balls and give them to the child that needs a gift!
Maybe give the younger child the balls to have partial ownership of the sibling Christmas gift.
When mine were little I would often buy this package of balls for them.
Whether they were in a box a tent or an actual ball pit didn’t matter. They loved them any way they could get them.
8) Monopoly Jurassic Park Edition
A great gift to or from a sibling group is a board game!
Little kids are wild about dinosaurs and Jurassic Park/World so go with one of the fun themed ones that the kids will all love.
Monopoly is a great game for game night between the siblings or the whole family.
You can start a special tradition between family members playing games on Christmas Eve!
9) Laser Tag
Another activity for the entire family that would be a great sibling gift is laser tag!
Boys and girls and even adults love laser tag.
Laser tag can be played indoors with relative safety making it a great option for the colder season.
10) Five Pack Of Walkie Talkies
Walkie talkies are a perfect sibling gift.
They can communicate together and have tons of fun in blanket made forts during the cold season around Christmas time.
Big brother and big sister can be encouraged to use their inside voice because they now have devices that allow calm and quiet communication.
I love a good walkie talkie. I wish I had one for when the kids are in the yard playing and want to tell them to come inside for dinner.
11) Magazine Subscription
If you are under the gun and the morning of Christmas is growing near, never forget that magazine subscriptions can be ordered online at any hour.
Also, a gift email can be printed out stating it is to and from whomever you need it to be from and to.
This last minute gift can be from the oldest sibling that can read to one of the little ones.
Or if you want to give it to the entire sibling set but let child#2 open it, perfect as well!
12) The Berenstain Bears 8-in-1 Book
If your children love reading or being read to then, during the season of giving, I recommend the Berenstain Bears 8-in-1 book about values and virtues.
These books provide a good start on becoming good world citizens and showing caring and empathy.
This set of 8 books in one, comes fully illustrated. Also, if you need a Christmas gift even faster, you can load it on your Kindle.
Another gift that I have purchased before and witnessed children play together with is a dinosaur track playset.
This play track comes with dinosaur cars and dinosaurs, it is ever expandable and can be remade again and again into different configurations.
Siblings can share their interests with other siblings with this fun gift.
Snack boxes from around the world are a fantastic gift for siblings that are fun to share.
Sometimes the siblings are sharing the items because the unusual flavor was not pleasing to their palate.
Sometimes the sibling is just sharing their Christmas gift because it tastes great! Either way, the siblings are sharing this flavorful and fun subscription gift.
The older brother or sister can read the interesting facts that are available within the box.
15) Custom Collage Fleece Photo Blanket
One great sibling group gift is a custom picture blanket.
In the cold, winter months my children love a cozy blanket. The fact that this cozy blanket will be a custom gift with their faces on it is even better!
If one of you children wants creative input on this gift let them pick out some of their favorite family photos.
There are always promo codes for projects like these that make these custom gifts surprisingly affordable.
Speaking of Shutterfly gifts, if you were going to give your husband a collage picture book of your recent family vacation to Universal and the children’s present count is off… Guess what! Your child now has a family picture book for everyone to enjoy!
I may or may not have done this with ornaments and magnets ordered from here.
Sibling Gifts Can Take Some Stress Off Gift Planning For a Large Family
Christmas time is stressful but try not to panic. Try and plan ahead with some of these easy and fun finds.
But if the numbers are still off try and keep it together and don’t forget – children love candy and gum.
Just wrap anything and it can be to the entire group with one child opening or from one sibling with another opening.
The perfect gift may already be in your pantry!
