Choosing a blog name is perhaps one of the most excruciating parts of starting a blog. I spent days and days waffling back and forth over the perfect name until I finally called my best friend who walked me through it.
If you want to read about the process we used to finally determine my blog name, you can read about that here >>
Today I want to share some tips if you’re finding that you’re super duper stuck with this process.

I get emails all the time from people saying they are ready to go with blogging but cannot seem to decide on a name. If that’s you, do not worry! We will get you there. Here is what I recommend:
1) Give yourself a hard deadline
Sometimes the best thing you can do if you’re really stuck on a blog name is to give yourself a hard deadline to choose one! If you’re agonizing over how long it’s taking, I’d be willing to bet you’re overthinking it and probably procrastinating like crazy.
I bet you even had several plenty-good names to use, but threw them out due to indecision. Set a date to decide and just do it already!
Don’t forget that when you need to check the blog names availability, you can do so on Bluehost. Just look for this screen on Step 2 of the checkout process (right after you select the $.295 hosting plan)….don’t worry, this step doesn’t commit you to anything. You can always just close out of the screen if the domain isn’t what you wanted.

2) Ask a trusted friend for an opinion
The next thing you can do to get unstuck is to come up with a list of 10 or so then get opinions from a good friend. Sometimes your friend will see pros and cons that you never considered before. At the very least, she can help you throw out the duds so you’re left with a shorter list to choose from!
3) Don’t constantly second-guess yourself.
Once you choose a blog name, get hosting, and publish your first round of blog posts, please resist the urge to change it, rebrand, or switch domains. I considered changing the name WhatMommyDoes to something else many times and in hindsight I am so glad I didn’t. Your blog’s success will NOT hinge upon the name you choose. You could name your blog Oogly Googly and see success as long as you remember that your #1 job is to help someone with your advice.
People come to blogs when they think they can find answers to their questions, whether that’s what to make for dinner tonight or what to wear to a party. They won’t care that much about your blog name.
